Ed and Stede have long since reconciled and are living their best married life. On what should be a relaxing trip to Cuba, someone who wants vengeance against Stede tracks them down and uses Ed as bait. Ed isn't worried at all, and is more just like "when will my unhinged co-captain get here so I can watch him wreck shit?" It's great. Also great is Stede, who is still very much Stede, but who has harnessed his particular brand of lunacy to be a very successful pirate, and who has quite the reputation now. It's a romp seeing him and Ed go on a manhunt together.

“Well,” Stede said as he picked at the last of the papaya, while Ed packed a pipe, “What now?”
“Donno.” Ed shrugged. Half a dozen ideas immediately sprang to mind, but he didn’t have to be the plan guy anymore. He could sit back, enjoy his pipe, and ask, “What’d’you want to do?”
“Find out about him,” Stede said decisively—the kind of tone that implied he’d been asking out of politeness, rather than any real intent to listen. What a stubborn bastard. Ed hid his smile behind his pipe.
“Who cares? He’s just some guy.”
“But— it’s a vendetta. A man bent on revenge for our unscrupulous crimes!” Stede stood up straighter, eyes glowing with the thrill of it all. “Isn’t it exciting?”
“Suppose. I’ve had a lot of this.”
“And what do you usually do, with people bent on revenge?”
Ed couldn’t exactly say, make Izzy deal with it. That implied a level of murder he didn’t want to admit to. Instead, he said, “It’s why I usually hang out on uninhabited islands now.”
“Ah.” Stede’s face dropped. “Should we just leave, then?”
“Nah. Havin’ too much fun, aren’t I? Besides, it’s not my revenge guy, it’s yours. Up to you what we do with him.”
“Well. We could leave him be.”
“Or…”
“Or.” Stede stabbed a piece of mango with a little more force than necessary. “We ask around about him. Find out what kind of man he is, if he can be reasoned with.”
“You think someone who sends an assassin can be reasoned with?”
“Probably not. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. He must take after the rest of his family. Everyone on La Concorde were assholes, frankly. I can’t say I’m sad they’re dead. I’m almost sorry I wasn’t involved, at this point.”
